The Netscape problem has been fixed, folks, so if you want to use Netscape 4 and read and post to the message board, now you can. Thanks to Vitaliy again for helping me with that one. The problem was simple; the link to the style sheet was wrong, so Netscape didn't render the page without it. I hate Netscape. I can't wait until they release the source code so someone can finally fix the darn thing.
And I put the OLD NEWS link back at the bottom of this page, in case you wanted to check out the archives. I'm going to be on hiatus, so I won't be posting anything next week, nor will I be able to respond to any e-mails. So, I'll be seeing y'all after a week if ever again.

 March 5, 1998   6:20 PM

While trying to fix the message board problem, I accidentally replaced the index file with an older one. The messages are still there, but the links to them are gone. I can reconstruct it manually like I did last time, but I'd rather not. I'm not going to bother taking it offline, either, so try not to post anything until further notice. If you do, you'll be replacing the other messages. If any of you still have the original file (http://www.chasmaction.com/cgi-bin/Messages/default.htm) in your cache, which you should if you've been in the message board before I screwed up and didn't refresh it, then I'd be greatful if you could send that to me. Meanwhile, I'll see what I can do.

 March 5, 1998   7:00 PM

A million thanks to Vitaliy, webmaster for Quake Domain, for sending me that file from his cache. So, the message board is back to how it was before. You can go post now.

 March 3, 1998   8:00 PM

I was gonna wait till tommorow to mention it, but GaMeR had to go and e-mail me... the TCP/IP patch and the Level Pack are both out! Right now, their bundled in a whopping 3.95 MB zip file. You can download it from Megamedia's site at the moment. Be sure to read the readme file, and this "patch," as they call it, is for the full version only. So, if you don't have it but liked the demo, there's more of a reason to get the whole thing now. Don't delay, operators are standing by.

 February 25, 1998   4:40 PM

The message board will be temporarily offline. I just gotta fix something here, so hold yer horses.

 February 25, 1998   7:00 PM

Okay, it's back online. I still haven't gotten to the crux of the Netscape problem. Mind you, this only applies to version 4.x. It works fine on Netscape 3.x. I'll have to wait till tommorow to talk to the sysadmin.

 February 24, 1998   6:30 PM

Okay everybody, the message board is back online, so post to your heart's content. I had to start with a new board, so all the messages are somewhere else if anywhere at all. On the bright side, downloading time is shorter and it's not all so crazy-listed right now.
The TCP/IP patch should be out any time now as it's in its final stages of beta testing. I still haven't heard anything else about the level pack. And thanks to EDfanatic (who runs his own up-to-date Chasm page) for pointing out to me that this site was awarded a Gold rating in the On Tap section of Gamerz Online (of which GaMeR is a part of)!
I'm still busy with other things, so the site won't be regularly updated and replies to messages might be delayed.

 February 24, 1998   7:00 PM

I just got word that the message board isn't viewable with Netscape. I've had this problem before and it should be resolved tommorow. Sorry about that.

 February 12, 1998   4:00 PM

Woops, there has been some crossed signals. It turns out that there isn't anything buggy about the patch-patch as far as the modem patch is concerned. You may want to revert back to the original file. If you didn't back it up then download it again . Sorry about that!

 February 11, 1998   6:20 PM

Many of you may know by now that the message board is currently inaccesable. Something weird happened on the server, and now I'm trying to recover the recent messages if I can. If I can't then it's going to be a clean slate, which isn't entirely a bad thing. I'll try to get it back online as soon as possible, with or without messages.
And surprise, surprise, the patch for the modem patch is buggy, too! Instead of releasing a patch for that patch (which is also a patch for another patch), just replace ps10.exe with this new one in your Chasm directory.

 January 28, 1998   8:40 PM

Okay, so it took more than a day (what else is new?), but Josh Miller (another one of those specially thanked people at the back of the Chasm manual), has revised the strategy guide, which will always be linked in the cheats page. It's a plain text file, but I have some of it HTMLized, and will post it up when and if I finish that.
And as I had my HTML editor open and everything, I did do something about the Dinosaur item in the monsters page (,EDfanatic). And I've resolved the weapons page controversy as well, so as to relieve GaMeR of his migranes.

 Jænuary 21, 1998   5:15 PM

Whoops, premature promulgation... The walkthrough has been taken down. As with anything else here, we have to fix a few bugs in the document. But, I'm told it'll be back tommorow. English is a very human-readable language so it's easier to spot the mistakes and to correct them as well.

 January 20, 1998   9:00 PM

Three cheers for Cris Ramon, for he has finally finished the Chasm Strategy Guide and Complete Walkthrough! So now you can stop bothering me about what to do, unless you haven't found the answer in the guide/walkthrough, and noone in the message board can help you. And as a side note, if you want to bother someone for Tech Support, bug the friendly Megamedia people at chasm@megamedia.com. I've linked to the guide in the Cheats/Console section, so it will always be there when you need it. The ASCII maps didn't survive the translation to HTML, but that can be fixed. But it isn't now, so don't, like, freak out when you see garbled gobbledygook.
And Gamesmania has finally posted a review for Chasm. They may be this site's host, but it definitely isn't biased, except for maybe towards Quake 2 and Jedi Knight, but almost every review is like that. I haven't updated the Links Page, but I will when time permits, and time hasn't been very permissive lately.
And as for the screen shots, for the time being you can take a gander over at Chasm3D.com.

 January 8, 1998   8:30 PM

Hey, whattya know; I didn't have time today for posting up those screen shots. Well, they'll be up as soon as possible, whenever that is.
You know how Microsoft makes a patch available for buggy software a while after its release, and then a little while longer, they come out with a patch for the patch? That's how it is with the beta modem patch. If you downloaded the patch for Com3 and 4, then download the patch that fixes some bugs in that version.

 January 7, 1998   9:00 PM

I'm sorry about the faulty link to the modem patch. I have no idea why it didn't work; it should have. Anyway you should be able to download it now. And thanx to all who notified me of the blunder.
I didn't have any time today to post the new screen shots, but I'll tell you the rest of the great news. Megamedia's going to stick to all of the claims on the box, so no need to alert the authorities. There's going to be a TCP/IP patch so you can play over the net directly, without Kali, MPlayer, et al. The patch is slated for the first week of February. So, just mark every day for that month, 'cause you never know. There will also be 3 new levels with all new graphics. It includes two new enemies, and another Boss to boot. And that's what you'll be seeing in the screen shots, which I hope to be up tomorrow.

 January 6, 1998   9:00 PM

Happy New Year, everyone. 1998 will be the year Chasm realizes its full potential. You'll be seeing patches for everything that needs to be patched, and more info, especially for the level editor. I don't have much time to go into details right now, but good news for those with modems on Com 3 or 4. The updated modem patch is here! So download it and enjoy to your heart's content. Tomorrow, there should be new screen shots and more great news. Stay tuned.
